JBL believes Brock Lesnar is far from done with WWE and that the WrestleMania 42 retirement moment could be the setup for one of the greatest storylines in recent memory.
Speaking on Something To Wrestle, JBL assessed Lesnar’s WrestleMania 42 performance and what he believes comes next for the Beast.
“I watched him going, Oh my god, this guy is freaking amazing, absolutely amazing. Whether it’s a negotiation technique, whether it’s part of the storyline, whether he actually is retired, whatever it is, his performance was freaking once in a lifetime. That was legendary. What he did. I thought it was just absolutely amazing,” JBL said.
He also discussed Lesnar’s history as a negotiator and what he believes is likely unfolding behind the scenes.
“Brock was the best negotiator, I think I’ve ever seen. I mean, Brock is a really smart human being. And I remember he was negotiating to come back. He flew out to Vegas, I think it was and just went backstage, just to see Dana White backstage. Just happened to be out in Vegas, where he flew on a private jet to go and go backstage. All of a sudden, his negotiation got a little bit better with WWE Brock. Brock’s a great negotiator. I mean, that’s what you do, you know, and him and Vince are on different sides of this. You know, Vince wanted Brock. Brock wanted Vince. They needed each other, but they’re both vying for they’re both negotiating with each other. Brock is an unreal negotiator, I think, like my belief of what’s going to happen. Can you imagine the storyline? Brock retired. He’s not going to say anything. Brock doesn’t say anything on social media anyway. Leading up to it, he did some podcasts. He did a few things, you know, got out there, you realize how entertaining and how personable this guy is, and what a good guy Brock is. We talked about his kids, which all that’s legit. Brock is a good, good human being and but now you have Paul Heyman being tortured by Gunther, saying I was the one that wanted to retire him. Brock goes and visits the ranch, tries to get him to come out. It’s the oldest storyline in the world of wrestling. You’re trying to get the guy to come out of retirement, to come back and slay the demon, slay the dragon. I think this could be unbelievable. This could be the storyline of the year, if it is a storyline, I have no idea if it is or not. This thing could play out extremely well when Brock comes back, that ovation, especially if they’re anywhere around where he’s from, is going to be incredible.”
He also placed Lesnar’s career in historical context, drawing on his personal experience watching him negotiate and compete over the years.
“There’s nobody in the world that could have done this. No one in the literally in the last 100 years that could have done what Brock Lesnar has done. And I think Brock is still my opinion. I think I hope he is, because I love the story, and I love Brock. I think he’s still negotiating, and I think this gonna be the greatest story that we’ve had it in the last, I don’t know how many years. I mean, can you imagine Paul Heyman being tortured by Gunther and trying to get Brock to come back? Brock not answering. Heyman goes up to visit, vignettes you could have, trying to get him to come back, Gunther calling him out, this, this is some legendary shit, man. If this is how it plays out, I just love seeing this in my mind, because I love, you know, fantasy booking stuff like everybody else does.”
