Jeff Hardy has a theory about where his critics come from, and it is not a terrestrial one.
Hardy appeared on Busted Open ahead of tonight’s live edition of TNA Impact, where he challenges Nic Nemeth for the TNA World Championship. Asked where the people who dislike him actually are, he did not place them on this planet.
“I think they’re from Jupiter, I’m pretty sure. I’m pretty sure. They certainly may not exist here on Earth.”
From there he wandered into the stretch of his WWE career when he was at his most popular, and into the long-running joke that he was at one point a bigger draw than the sitting President of the United States. Hardy leaned all the way into it, and into what he says it did to his brother.
“And I mean, I’m sure there’s a few. Back when Matt was a very, very bad brother when he was very envious of me, just for the fact that I was bigger than Obama, during my run in WWE, and he had to turn on me and hit me with a chair and take me out.”
“Just a terrible brother at that point, and he just couldn’t take it so he had to try to get rid of me once again. But I’m sure there’s a few out there.”
Matt Hardy turned on his brother in early 2009, a storyline that ran through WrestleMania 25 and produced some of the most personal television either man has been part of in storyline.
The Hardys hold the TNA World Tag Team Championship, won in a four-way ladder match at Slammiversary on June 28 in Boston.
Tonight’s title match gives Jeff the chance to become a four-time TNA World Champion. His three previous reigns came in 2010, 2011 and 2012, running to a combined 249 days, and he lost the title to Bully Ray at Lockdown in 2013. Nemeth won it back at Slammiversary.
