Jeff Jarrett revealed that he personally reached out to Dixie Carter to encourage her to take part in Dark Side of the Ring, even as their relationship has remained strained for years.
Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Jarrett acknowledged the long-standing tension between the two. “It has always been strained, since before my first wife’s passing, I would say it’s been strained,” he said. Still, Jarrett maintained that he always respected Carter’s position as the daughter of TNA’s key investors, Bob and Janice Carter. “I respected Dixie and knew that, okay, that’s my boss’s, that’s the financial partner’s daughter, so I always handled that situation, and despite what she thought, tried to look out for her over and over.”
When the Dark Side producers struggled to land Carter for the TNA project, Jarrett said he volunteered to make the call himself. He recalled telling her that appearing would be in her best interest. “I’m encouraging you to sit down and tell your version, tell your truth,” Jarrett said he told Carter. He framed it as a chance for her side to be represented. “There’s your truth, and there’s multiple people that are on the show, their truth, and then somewhere in the middle in there, there’s truth.”
Ultimately, Carter didn’t commit. “She didn’t tell me no, but she never came through,” Jarrett said. While the documentary casts Carter in an unflattering light, Jarrett struck a gracious tone about the whole experience. “Today, I’m grateful for everything as it relates to TNA. Do I wish things would have gone differently? Sure, but that’s life.”
