Jim Cornette Slams Modern WWE SmackDown as “Boring,” a “Television Version of Somas”

Legendary wrestling manager Jim Cornette offered a scathing review of the current state of WWE programming, particularly SmackDown, labeling the three-hour show “boring” and comparing it to a sedative. On a recent episode of “Jim Cornette’s Drive-Thru,” Cornette explained why he often focuses his critiques more on AEW, stating that WWE, while more professional, often lacks compelling content.

“The reason for that, in a lot of cases, is because where the WWE is just kind of f**king boring, professionally done, not quite as many… production f**k ups… it’s just kind of there and it takes three hours,” Cornette stated. “It gives you about 15 minutes of entertainment, whereas on the other program [AEW], it’s like trying to run through the Zapruder film… It’s so unprofessional from so many different standpoints… that one must try to keep up with these things as best we can.” He later described WWE as a “television version of Somas.”

Cornette then broke down specific segments from the June 6, 2025, go-home episode of SmackDown that frustrated him. He criticized a segment with Bianca Belair in Knoxville, Tennessee: “How do you screw up Rocky Top in Knoxville, Tennessee?” He also questioned her promo about needing a “safe space to heal” for a “broken f**king finger.”

He directed sharp criticism at Nia Jax for a Banzai drop spot on Jade Cargill and Naomi, stating, “I can’t believe she didn’t pop both of… implants. What the fuck… There is two reasons I can think of why that you would bonsai drop somebody in that fashion you don’t give a f**k, or you don’t like them.” He also critiqued Damien Priest’s current character, saying, “He is not connecting with this living on the street gimmick… there’s nothing interesting about him.”

Cornette capped his review by blasting the show’s pacing and the lengthy final promo segment involving John Cena, Cody Rhodes, Jey Uso, and Logan Paul. “They had a promo so long they had to take commercial break in the middle of the f**king promo… by the time that John Cena his music started playing, they had seven minutes on the f**king air,” he lamented. “Is that worth three hours of… How devoted do you have to be to sit there on any night of the week for three hours to to get that out of it?”
