Kevin Nash says Unreal is the best thing WWE puts out, and that he would rather watch what happens behind the curtain than what happens in the ring.
Speaking on Kliq This with Sean Oliver, Nash was talking about how much modern audiences understand about the business when he brought the show up unprompted.
“You know. I think that, and even like of all the shows that that that the WWE puts out, by far my favorite to watch is Unreal.”
He said he had watched the first episode of the newest season, which is built around John Cena’s retirement. Cena’s last match was against Gunther in Washington, D.C. on December 13, 2025.
“It just dropped. I watched the first. That was it. Was basically Cena’s retirement because I’m smart. You know, I think we’re at this point. That we didn’t. You know, we went into the fact that the IQ is higher in pro wrestling than anything else, so if the IQ is 112 for the average pro wrestling fan, then obviously they know it’s a work.”
His argument is that the appetite for backstage material is not new, and that crowds have always looked past the ring when given the chance.
“So maybe that’s, you know, because to me, it’s I’m more intrigued by the backstory, and people always have been. You know, like you could have the main event going on, and then the piping fall that covers the entrance to the locker room, and everybody in the f***ng building wants to see what the f**k (is) going on behind the piping. I can give two s*** about what’s going on in the ring, because that’s what they don’t get to see, and they’re getting a chance to see it.”
Nash is describing the pipe and drape at the entrance way, and the reaction any live crowd has when something goes on behind it during a match.
He said knowing how the story ends is not the obstacle it might seem.
“How long ago did John retire? Several months, and so you, I think it’s great because you’re watching something that has already played out. You think you know how it happened, but then you see, you know, as Seth’s shoulder gets hurt. You see Liv get hurt. You see the people go down. You see the plans get changed. You see, and then lo and behold, they come back. Things fit. They can plug in things. They can plug two people into a finish, and you can kind of see how.”
Seth Rollins gave up the World Heavyweight Championship last year through injury. Liv Morgan missed an extended spell in 2025.
Nash finished by giving the credit to more than the writers.
“I mean, how much 3D chess is actually being played by the people that are creating the actual product on all levels, not just your creative team, but the actual, you know, the guys and the girls that are out there, you know, putting it together in the ring.”
