A couple of weeks ago, WWE announced that Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn would be returning “soon.” The assumption was that they would be back after the holidays but now it looks like fans will have to wait a little bit longer to see them on television.
On today’s Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez talked about their return status:
“So everyone that they announced as being called up was scheduled to be called up in January and the ratings started to just tank around November and December. And so WWE decided that ‘we have to shake things up, pal’ and so they made their big announcements.”
Alvarez said that they announced everyone early so they could get the word out to fans that change was coming in hopes that ratings would not continue to drop as they did in November and December.
“Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn – they’re not gonna be back probably until February I would guess. Maybe they’ll be back a little early. But when they were making all of their announcements, that was something else they could tell the fans.”
This makes sense because the word we got on Zayn was that he would be back in February. Zayn was the guest on Chris Jericho’s podcast a few weeks and said that he didn’t miss being away from WWE and added that he is not close to being ready to return to action.
In other WWE News, a top WWE NXT star was supposed to debut this week but it didn’t happen. There are big WrestleMania plans for him. Click here for more on the story.
