Speculation started on Thursday whether John Cena’s Hollywood career could impact his commitments to WWE for this year’s SummerSlam after it was announced that he would star in a new movie titled, “Argylle.”
It’s been heavily reported that WWE hopes to have Cena back so he can work the main event of SummerSlam against Universal Champion Roman Reigns. The show takes place on Saturday, August 21st from Las Vegas, at Allegiant Stadium.
Shooting on the film will begin in Europe this August with the release date being sometime next year. Thus, the film is set to shoot in the same month as SummerSlam.
Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that there’s still no word yet as to when Cena will exactly return to WWE.
However, it was said Cena is free of responsibilities for acting work at this point and until after SummerSlam. Also, Cena vs. Reigns is locked in as the main event for the show. Meltzer did note that “it’s possible he could start after or end prior to the date, or even get a few days off.”
