On Saturday morning, we reported on the departure of Chris Adonis (aka Chris Masters) from Impact Wrestling. Well, at Saturday night’s TV tapings in Orlando, one of their top names also said goodbye.
10 wrestlers competed for one of the “Feast or Fired” briefcases. For those of you unaware, 4 cases are hung on poles in each corner of the ring and 3 of them contain a title opportunity. The 4th case has a pink slip, which means that whoever grabs that case would be fired. In most cases when they’ve done this match, the fired wrestler was legitimately leaving the company. That is the case here because Ethan Carter III got the case with the pink slip and he is legitimately saying goodbye to Impact Wrestling.
It’s no secret that EC3’s contract was coming due in the summer and Anthem was likely not going to renew it unless he took a pay cut because they have been in cost-cutting mode. The idea is to get wrestlers on nightly deals and cut out the big money deals. His deal was not up but Impact granted him an early release. At the same tapings, EC3 was defeated by Tyrus.
It’s been reported for weeks that EC3 is believed to be headed to WWE. It’s worth noting that he recently filed for the EC3 trademark since Impact is allowing wrestlers to retain the rights to their characters after they leave. Bobby Lashley could also be on his way out soon.
FYI, here is what each wrestler had in his case…
– World Championship (Moose)
– Tag Team Championship (Eli Drake)
– X-Division Championship (Petey Williams)
– Pink slip (EC3)

EC3 complained about having to participate in an “outdated” match and then he proceeded to attack Jeremy Borash until Brian Cage came out to make the save. Cage essentially destroyed EC3. This show will likely air towards the end of February.
