Matt Hardy has weighed in on the widespread criticism of WrestleMania 42, agreeing with fans who felt the event fell short of what the showcase is supposed to represent.
Speaking to Ariel Helwani on The Ariel Helwani Show, Hardy addressed the complaints about short match times and the volume of advertising that ran throughout both nights of the event.
“It is definitely so evolved and so different from what the initial concept of WrestleMania was. It felt very prostituted because of all of the ads and everything else. I also feel, when you go to these pay-per-views like WrestleMania, if you have these big matches between big stars, these matches need to be good and need to have time and need to have a good payoff. That’s what you’re building to,” Hardy said.
WWE publicly touted WrestleMania 42 as one of the most successful events in company history, pointing to gate figures and viewership numbers as evidence of the show’s commercial performance. WWE President Nick Khan has teased that a WrestleMania 44 announcement would be made soon.
