AEW’s newly trademarked pay-per-view event could be heading to Canada. According to Fightful Select, Montreal is the heavy favorite to host AEW Redemption, with an announcement expected in the coming weeks. The report indicates the event is likely to take place in July, slotting it between Forbidden Door and All In on the AEW calendar.
Fightful Select reported: “Fightful Select was informed that there would be a new PPV on the AEW slate this year between Forbidden Door and All In, and eventually it was revealed to be AEW Redemption, likely in July. There’s been heavy speculation about the location of the event. In asking around All Elite Wrestling, Canada was rumored in recent weeks, with Montreal being the heavy favorite based on those that we spoke to. We’ve not confirmed this as of yet, but an announcement is expected in the coming weeks.”
AEW filed the trademark for AEW Redemption on April 15, with Andrew Zarian of the Mat Men Pro Wrestling Podcast subsequently reporting that the filing is for a new pay-per-view event scheduled for this year. AEW also filed a separate trademark for “Royal Redemption” on April 25, though how that name will be used on-screen remains unclear.
If confirmed, Montreal would mark a significant return of AEW to Canada. The promotion previously held AEW Dynasty in Vancouver earlier this month.
AEW’s next pay-per-view is Double or Nothing at Louis Armstrong Stadium in New York City on May 24. The only match confirmed for the show at this time is Kazuchika Okada defending the AEW International Championship against Konosuke Takeshita.
