As noted before, WWE has released new John Cena shirts based around him being a 15-time world champion. The back of the shirt says “You Can’t See Me” and then it has a large “15X” underneath. That would seem to indicate that he will not be winning the title at SummerSlam. You never know with WWE since they seem to change their mind on things on a week to week basis. Roman Reigns was told on the night before WrestleMania that plans changed and he would not be winning the WWE title so nothing would shock me.
Cena vs. Rollins is scheduled to continue after SummerSlam since they are advertised for house shows and WWE has made new anti-Cena shirts for Seth Rollins. WWE has been teasing that Sheamus could cash-in so they could have Cena win and lose it to Sheamus on the same night and Cena could still feud with Rollins after SummerSlam. That would make him a 16-time champion though and would mean that they would have to make new shirts.
If Cena becomes a 16-time World Champion then it would tie Ric Flair’s record. You can argue that Flair held it 18 times but WWE counts 16 reigns for Flair. Flair was asked about this on his podcast and said that he doesn’t think about it and he would be happy for Cena if he tied the record and would also be happy if Cena ended up breaking the record some day.
