Olympic Gold Medalist Tamyra Mensah-Stock Has Impressed WWE Officials Ahead of Debut

This past May, WWE signed another Olympic gold medalist after inking a deal with Gable Steveson in 2021 as Tamyra Mensah-Stock is with the company.

Mensah-Stock made history at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 as she was the first Black woman to win gold in freestyle wrestling when she walked away as the Olympic champion at 68 kilograms.

She also won the 2022 world championship in Belgrade, Serbia, for her second world title. Now, she is ending her amateur wrestling career in an attempt to become a pro wrestler.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that training at the WWE Performance Center has gone well for her.

Meltzer wrote, “Reports on Olympic gold medalist Tamyra Mensah-Stock, who was the actual biggest name recent signing but has not debuted yet, are very strong. We’re told she’s doing great and taking to pro wrestling like a fish to water.”

In the announcement article for ESPN about her signing, she noted she wanted to make it to the main roster within a year.
