Piper Niven says she has not retired from wrestling. Niven addressed the speculation on X on Sunday after a fan asked her directly whether there was anything to it.
“Reports of my demise are greatly exaggerated,” she wrote. “I am still in recovery but no I am not retired.”

It is the second time this year she has answered a version of the question in her replies rather than through a statement. In an earlier exchange with a fan who asked if she was okay, she said she was in a good spot, apologised for being quiet, and said she reads the messages she gets even when she does not respond to them.
Niven has been out of action since August 2025 with a neck injury and cervical stenosis. Her last match was on the August 22, 2025 episode of WWE SmackDown, where she beat Charlotte Flair in what was described at the time as the biggest singles win of her WWE run. She was pulled from a planned WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship challenge shortly afterwards.
She had a procedure earlier this year and has posted regular updates on her recovery since, including scans and follow-up appointments. Those posts have been the only consistent source of information on where she is, because WWE has not commented on her status publicly at any point.
Sean Ross Sapp reported on the Fightful Select Q&A at the time of the injury that some people in the company feared it could be career-threatening, while people close to Niven were confident she would be back. He described it then as a neck injury that wrestlers have returned from, and said she was not expected on television for the foreseeable future. Nothing in her post on Sunday updates that beyond the fact that she is still recovering.
Niven has not put a timeline on a return to the ring, and she did not offer one here. What she ruled out was the conclusion people had drawn from the length of the absence.
She is Scottish and worked the British and Irish independent scene as Viper before signing with WWE, including a run in ICW. She joined NXT UK in 2019 and moved to the main roster in 2021 under the name Doudrop, which she used until reverting to Piper Niven in 2023. She won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship alongside Chelsea Green, and the pairing became one of the more consistently featured acts in the women’s division on SmackDown.
The Charlotte Flair win was meant to be the start of something rather than the end of it. Niven had beaten the most decorated woman on the roster in a singles match on television, and the tag title programme was already lined up behind it. She has not wrestled since.
