CM Punk: ‘I Want The Next Generation To Work Less And Get Paid More Than I Did’

CM Punk says he wants the next wave of wrestlers to have it better than he did, both in their schedules and their paychecks.

Speaking on What’s Your Story? with Steph McMahon, the Undisputed WWE Champion framed it as common sense for any industry and compared the trajectory to what he has seen in professional hockey.

“I want the next generation to work less and get paid more than I did, because that’s what you should want in any business,” Punk said.

He said his friends in the NHL feel the same way about the rising pay for younger players in their sport.

“I talk to a lot of my friends in the NHL, and they’re stoked. They’re like, ‘This is great. These young kids are making more money than we ever did. This is great,'” Punk said. “I want that for wrestlers.”

The comments line up with other remarks Punk made on the podcast about WWE’s current management being more forgiving of young talent than it was earlier in his career, a period when he has said a single mistake could cost a call-up their job.

Punk is currently the Undisputed WWE Champion after defeating Sami Zayn, with his first title defense set against Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam.
