Reason why Karrion Kross vs. Santos Escobar didn’t happen on Wednesday’s WWE NXT

WWE had been promoting Karrion Kross vs. Cruiserweight Champion Santos Escobar in a non-title match on this week’s episode of NXT.

However, it didn’t happen. WWE had pulled the match from the advertisement on their website the day of the show. During the broadcast, WWE had Escobar do a promo about how the match will happen on his time and not when WWE NXT General Manager William Regal wants to book it. Thus, he was going home.

Regal then did a video segment where he announced the match for next week’s show. If Escobar doesn’t show up and work the match then he would be stripped of the title as well as suspended.

It turns out that a medical reason prevented this match from happening. During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that he heard the match wasn’t going to happen as early as Tuesday, the day before the broadcast.

“There was a medical reason that I heard yesterday, Tuesday, that the match wasn’t going to take place. It’s not a storyline, it was a storyline out of necessity, and not a planned storyline.

The match was supposed to happen on tonight’s show, but it could not. I was really surprised that they announced it for next week, but they did.”
