Over the last few months, Rey Mysterio has been negotiating with WWE for a new deal that would see him stay with the company for years to come.
Initial talk of Mysterio and Vince McMahon trying to come to terms was reported about back in June where it was noted that Mysterio wanted a pay increase, but McMahon declined to give him that as he mentioned the current situation that the company is in due to COVID-19.
Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Mysterio is staying with WWE, but he couldn’t confirm whether Mysterio has put pen to paper just yet. This was the believed outcome since talks started.
Meltzer wrote, “it’s as close to official without confirmation of it being official, and obviously Dominik is a big part of that deal. AEW made an offer that equaled the WWE’s per-match offer, but the WWE offer was higher because it was for more dates.”
Meltzer stated that he doesn’t have a time frame past this new deal that would be considerably longer than Mysterio’s previous deal, which was for 18 months. He added that it’s not five years or longer deal that WWE had been offering to talent before COVID-19.
Mysterio hasn’t been on WWE programming since he lost the Eye for an Eye Match to Seth Rollins at the WWE Extreme Rules pay-per-view event last month when Mysterio had his eye pushed into the side of the steel step.
