REPORT: Seth Rollins was originally scheduled to win WWE Championship at Day 1 PPV

Dave Meltzer reported today in his column on SI.com that Big E was not booked to retain the WWE Championship before the late changes to the show.

Meltzer noted how the build to WrestleMania changed greatly when Brock Lesnar pinned Big E to win the title but the original scripted plan was for Big E to lose the belt to Seth Rollins.

This contradicts what WWE sources told Bryan Alvarez as he noted that Big E was scheduled to retain the title and there was a graphic briefly posted and deleted by the @WWEonFOX account that stated that Big E was retaining his title.

As always in WWE, plans change all the time and it’s possible that Rollins was originally scheduled to win the title and then Vince McMahon changed plans to have Big E win and then plans changed again when Roman Reigns positive, and then the decision was made to have Lesnar retain the title.

At this point, it’s unclear what the WWE Championship match will look like for WrestleMania but it looks like Bobby Lashley will be involved and the plan is still for Roman Reigns to battle Lesnar for the Universal Championship.
