Brock Lesnar made his big WWE return after being away since WrestleMania 36 at SummerSlam to have a confrontation with WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns.
It was reported last week this was a last-minute deal made by WWE and was due in part because they wanted to appease FOX, who wasn’t happy about WWE not making a big offer to bring back CM Punk.
During today’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer was talking about the direction that WWE is going in for Lesnar and Reigns. From a financial standpoint, WWE will get more money from booking this upcoming match in Saudi Arabia at Crown Jewel, which would justify the amount of money WWE is paying Lesnar, instead of saving it for WrestleMania.
Meltzer noted that he’s heard Lesnar has signed on for 8-12 matches as part of his contract. This doesn’t include TV appearances.
“He’s back for a number of dates. I’ve heard 8 to 12 is the number of dates he’s back for….8 and 12 between from now until the end of the contract. However long the contract is, whether it’s a two-year, three-year, whatever it is.”
Bryan Alvarez asked if that included TV dates. Meltzer responded, “I think that’s matches. I don’t think that includes TV dates. I’m sure he’s doing 1-2 TV’s before each match. Certainly the go-home shows before every match I’m sure he’s on.”
