Ric Flair says the rumors that he is heading back to WWE are untrue, and that putting them out is disrespectful to the company he actually works for. Flair addressed it in a post on X.
“I Am Seeing All The Rumors Online About Me Being Back With @WWE. Number One, It Is Disrespectful. Number Two, It Is Not True,” he wrote.
He was careful to separate the rumour from his relationship with WWE’s Chief Content Officer, Triple H.
“I Have Always Been Friends With Hunter. Nothing Has Changed With Our Friendship. We Both Have Mutual Respect For Each Other,” Flair wrote. “My Daughter @MsCharlotteWWE Works For WWE, And I Cheer Her On In The Company.”
The reason he gave for it being impossible is a contract.
“I Am Unable To Work For WWE, Because I Work For @AEW And @TonyKhan,” he wrote. “I Am Very Loyal To Him As He Allows Me The Freedom To Pursue All Of My Business Ventures And Opportunities Like @FlairSpirits, All Of My Signings, @WOOOOOEnergy, And @NASCAR.”
He finished on the relationship rather than the deal.
“Tony And I Are Personal Friends, And He Grew Up Watching Me. I Would Never Ever Disrespect Him,” Flair wrote. “Please Stop With The Online Rumors. I Am Happy Where I Am In My Life.”
AEW announced the deal on November 2, 2023, calling it multi-year and pairing it with Wooooo! Energy becoming the promotion’s exclusive energy drink. Dave Meltzer reported at the time that the arrangement was tied largely to that sponsorship and was not especially restrictive. Flair had debuted the week before as Tony Khan’s gift to Sting, and the run that followed was built around Sting’s retirement, up to and including Revolution 2024.
He has been used sparingly since. A report in July 2024 claimed he had parted ways with AEW, which proved wrong. He appeared on Collision in May 2025 to pay tribute to Steve McMichael after his death, and was announced for Blood and Guts last November alongside Ricky Steamboat before leaving the building ahead of the broadcast with a rotator cuff injury. Fightful reported in April that he remains under contract.
In April, Flair said publicly that WWE had banned him from WrestleMania 42, and posted that a clothing deal with Roots of Fight had collapsed because of WWE involvement, accusing the company of trying to damage his legacy. WWE did not respond publicly. Around the same time he told Ariel Helwani that Tony Khan is one of the greatest people he has ever met, that Khan pays well and gives opportunities to wrestlers who would not get them elsewhere, and that he would not be surprised if Khan one day bought WWE.
On Triple H specifically, Flair said in that period that their relationship is not what it was but that he cannot be angry with him. He credited Levesque with bringing him into WWE and with restoring his confidence through Evolution after his WCW exit, and said Levesque has a lot on his plate and gets constantly scrutinised.
Flair is a two-time WWE Hall of Famer and 16-time world champion. His last WWE run began in 2012 and ended in 2021 when he asked for his release, his third spell with the company. He wrestled what was billed as his last match in 2022, teaming with his then-son-in-law Andrade against Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal, a year before the AEW deal.
