Road Dogg has congratulated Chelsea Green on winning the Interim WWE Women’s Championship and used the moment to question how long it took the company to get behind her.
Green won a five-way ladder match on night two of SummerSlam in Minneapolis, beating Tiffany Stratton, Charlotte Flair, Jade Cargill and Lash Legend. The interim title exists because Rhea Ripley has been out since June with a meniscus injury.
Brian James, who worked as co-lead writer of SmackDown until he left WWE in March, posted on Sunday night.

James is well placed to have a view and also has a foot in the argument. He returned to WWE in January 2022, rose to Senior Vice President of Live Events and was co-lead writer of SmackDown before choosing to leave this March, citing the pace of the job and wanting more time with his family. Alexandra Williams was promoted to lead writer of Raw around the same time. James remains under a WWE Legends contract.
Green has spoken separately about the years it took to get here. She told WWE Now after her win that it is almost exactly four years since she texted Triple H asking for her job back, having been released in 2021, and that she had been told on several occasions across her career that it was not going to happen for her. She also credited a clip from the first season of Unreal, in which WWE staff discussed her not being the one, with turning the crowd behind her.
