It’s been two months since Roman Reigns defeated Brock Lesnar to unify the WWE and Universal Championships, but “The Tribal Chief” has still yet to defend his Undisputed WWE Universal Title.
Originally, WWE had tentatively planned that Reigns would defend the title against Matt Riddle on July 2nd at Money in the Bank, Randy Orton on July 30th at SummerSlam, and Drew McIntyre at the Clash at the Castle UK stadium show on September 3rd.
His status for Money In The Bank was said to be ‘up in the air’ after WWE moved the pay-per-view from Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium to the smaller MGM Grand Garden Arena and Reigns was pulled from the advertisements for it.
Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE has still yet to make a final decision on when Reigns’ will actually defend the championship. The company is considering whether to have Reigns wrestle at Money In The Bank as originally planned or to wait until SummerSlam in late July.
WWE is planning to have Riddle team with Shinsuke Nakamura against The Usos in an Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship match at Money in the Bank after Riddle and Nakamura earned a title shot on Monday’s episode of Raw in a DQ win over the champions. If WWE wants to have Reigns wrestle at this show and still keep Riddle in the tag bout then he will need a new opponent. Shinsuke Nakamura is an option of The Bloodline attacked him a few months ago on SmackDown.
