Rusev reveals what he did to cause Vince McMahon to initially pull him from Greatest Royal Rumble match

Last April, Rusev lost to The Undertaker at the Greatest Royal Rumble show in Saudi Arabia. That match almost did not happen. On the latest episode of WWE Ride Along on the WWE Network, Rusev explained why he was pulled from the match and why he was put back in just a few days later after the company announced that Chris Jericho would be replacing him.

“Remember when Vince saw me – I’m gonna face The Undertaker and I laughed at him?”

Aiden English remarked, “you just laughed in the chairman’s face [for] one of the biggest matches of your career.”

Rusev continued, “And what I get for it? I got pulled out. And then the Prince called. ‘you told me Rusev Day is coming to town baby.'”

While he was explaining this, they showed Rusev’s “Bury me softly, Brother” tweet that everyone assumed was the reason why he was initially pulled from the match.

What Rusev said matches up with what Chris Jericho was told. On his podcast, Jericho said that Rusev was pulled but then put back in the match because the Prince Of Saudi Arabia called. Once Rusev was added back to the match with Taker, the decision was made to move Jericho to the 50-Man Greatest Royal Rumble match.

It looks like all is well again with Rusev because he is in the main event mix and will challenge AJ Styles for the WWE Championship at Extreme Rules.
