On the August 13th edition of WWE SmackDown, there was a promo battle between John Cena and Universal Champion Roman Reigns to promote their match at SummerSlam.
During it, Cena said Reigns ran Dean Ambrose out of the company and ruined Seth Rollins’ career. This was reportedly an unscripted and not rehearsed segment. Rollins was asked about this during a recent media conference call.
“I had a good chuckle about it. John likes to cross some lines occasionally if you look at his history of promos in the ring, especially his face-to-face promos heading into big matches. He likes to cross the line. The one thing I did take exception to was the fact that Roman Reigns was in any way responsible for me and my career. That’s just not the case. Roman Reigns doesn’t dictate what I do in the ring, never has been, never will be. Roman Reigns doesn’t dictate my failures or my successes. Roman Reigns can’t make me, just like Roman Reigns can’t ruin me.
So, I think that’s the only part of it that I kinda like…not my favorite thing and I don’t like John painting me that way. That’s his thing, he has to use my name to fill his narrative, that’s fine. That’s his prerogative. I would do the same thing if I were in his position with his name. That’s the nature of the business. That’s how we sell tickets and that’s how we get people talking.”
