SPOILER: Current plan for WWE Championship match at WrestleMania

All signs on WWE TV are pointing towards Kofi Kingston getting his first WWE Championship match at WrestleMania and we were told this week that Kingston vs. Bryan is the plan.

A couple of weeks ago, it was reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the plan was for Daniel Bryan to face a returning WWE Superstar. There were several names considered but they ultimately decided on Kevin Owens.

Dave Meltzer added that Vince McMahon made the decision last week to change plans and have Owens face Bryan at Fastlane. At one point, the plan was for Mustafa Ali to face Bryan at Fastlane but Ali has not been cleared yet after suffering a concussion.

We were told on Tuesday night that the current plan is for Kofi Kingston to face Bryan for the title at Mania and they are considering having him win the belt.

On TV, WWE has been pushing the fact that he’s never gotten a shot at a major title during the 11 years he’s been with the company. We were told that McMahon decided it would be a better story if he got that first title shot on the biggest stage.

Xavier Woods and Big E have been lobbying for Kingston to get a World Title run and others in the company are behind him. From all accounts, Kingston is one of the most liked wrestlers in the locker room.
