Stephen A. Smith has made a bold claim about his potential in professional wrestling, declaring that with the right tutor, he would become the top heel in the business and then taking a shot at that same tutor’s wardrobe.
Smith appeared on First Take alongside Skip Bayless and Seth Rollins ahead of Backlash, with Rollins being asked which of the two ESPN hosts would make a better wrestling heel. Near the end of the interview, Smith made his case directly.
“Through the guidance and the tutelage of the great Paul Heyman, I would ultimately be the number one heel. I think I would,” Smith said.
He then immediately undercut Heyman with a fashion critique. “I would outheel the heel, and I dress a lot better than Paul Heyman,” Smith said.
Rollins faces Bron Breakker at Backlash this Saturday in Tampa, Florida in one of the two matches airing on ESPN 2 during the event. Smith has been a recurring WWE-adjacent presence in recent months, having previously told Logan Paul on the Impaulsive podcast that he wants to see Paul challenge for the WWE Heavyweight Championship and close WrestleMania as the main event.
