AJ Styles liked what he saw from Big Cass on Raw and does not want WWE going straight to the obvious match with Chad Gable.
Big Cass returned on the August 3 Raw in Des Moines, attacking Je’Von Evans after Evans had beaten Ethan Page. It was his first WWE appearance in eight years, teased by vignettes since the middle of July.
Speaking on his podcast, Styles was impressed by the presentation and gave the credit where it usually goes unnoticed.
“He certainly looked like one. Je’Von Evans bumped hard for him, and just made him like, dude. I’d never seen that finisher before either. The bear hug into the slam, like a Black Hole Slam kind of. I’d never seen that before, so I thought that was very unique in everything that he did.”
“They made him look like a killer, and his presentation looks like a killer. I hope he goes as far as it’ll take him. He’s a good dude. I’m glad he’s back.”
His co-host suggested the natural first programme would be Big Cass against Chad Gable, who won the Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam, on the size difference alone. Styles wants that earned rather than jumped to.
“I certainly hope that we don’t go straight to that. There’s got to be a build-up. There’s got to be Chad beating and destroying everybody in his way. That leads to the David and Goliath, right? Which is the right call.”
“But I don’t want Chad to lose the championship. There’s so much that we can do before we get to that point.”
Nothing has been announced between the two. Gable is the reigning Intercontinental Champion, having beaten Penta in his hometown of Minneapolis on night two of SummerSlam.
