CM Punk says he will be at Saturday’s NXT live event in Petersburg, Virginia, putting the reigning Undisputed WWE Champion on an untelevised developmental show.
Punk announced it himself on Instagram. WWE has not said what he will be doing there and no match has been announced.
The show takes place at the Virginia State University Multi-Purpose Center on Saturday, August 15, with a 7:30 p.m. bell time. NXT live events are not broadcast.
He worked WWE’s live event at EagleBank Arena in Fairfax on Thursday, where he told Cody Rhodes on the microphone that he could have a rematch for the championship any time he wanted, calling the way he retained at SummerSlam dirty.
None of that has been addressed on television. Kevin Owens returned on night two of SummerSlam and won a four-way against Sami Zayn, Finn Balor and GUNTHER specifically to become the number one contender to Punk’s title, and remains next in line.
Punk won the championship from Zayn on the July 6 Raw in Chicago, stepping in after Gunther attacked Rhodes and left him unable to compete in his own rematch. He retained against Rhodes at SummerSlam after Randy Orton returned and hit Rhodes with an RKO.
