WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long recently shared a story from his time as an on-screen authority figure where he was legitimately injured by Big Show during a spot that went wrong. Speaking on the Road Trip After Hours podcast, Long detailed the incident and the furious reaction from Vince McMahon that followed.
When asked by a fan if he was ever hurt in the ring, Long recounted the moment. “I think one time my Big Show, he threw me out of the ring, and he grabbed me, and he didn’t tell me, and he didn’t give me time to grab the second rope so I could break my fall,” Long said. “So I just went straight through and hit the ground, man.”
The spot resulted in a legitimate injury for the General Manager. “As I walked back… I mean, I think I hit my knee or somebody was, I couldn’t even hardly walk,” he recalled.
Long then described Vince McMahon’s protective and angry response to seeing him injured. “And that’s when Vince got pissed,” Long stated. “He looked at me and he told me, he said, ‘Don’t you ever let anybody throw you around like that again.’”
When asked if he knew whether Vince confronted Big Show about the incident, Long said, “No, I don’t know what he did or not, because I went on back to the trainer’s office so they could see what was wrong.”
Teddy Long was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2017 for his long career as a referee, manager, and one of the most memorable General Managers in the company’s history. Big Show, now working under his real name Paul Wight, is currently signed with All Elite Wrestling.
