SummerSlam is less than two weeks away and there have been no hints of a match with John Cena on the show. Some of you might recall the interview that Cena gave a few months ago where he hinted that things with Taker were not settled because he was caught off guard when Taker showed up at WrestleMania.
That interview led to rumors about a potential Cena vs. Taker match at SummerSlam. You can neve rule out anything in WWE but it seems like the ship has sailed for a match at SummerSlam because there wouldn’t be enough time to promote it. I should add that Cena is currently filming a movie in China.
However, if they want to do the rematch, perhaps they would want to do it at the Super Show-Down taking place in Melbourne, Australia. The show is being billed as “the biggest WWE live event ever in Australia” and WWE is hoping to set a new attendance record at Melbourne Cricket Ground stadium.
It’s a tall task because the stadium has a 100,000-seat capacity but a Taker vs. Cena rematch could help them sell a large amount of those tickets.
For what it’s worth, the Cena vs. Taker rumor wasn’t just amongst fans. Dave Meltzer reported last week that there had been talk “around in certain circles including insider circles.”
