There Is Concern That AEW Could Extend Contract Of Star Who Has WWE Interest

AEW has created many stars since launching in 2019, with some moving on to other promotions, including WWE.

The Lucha Bros. (Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix) have their AEW deals due soon, and WWE is interested in them. Bryan Alvarez of F4Wonline first reported that AEW internally believes Lucha Bros. will leave the company for WWE once they are free and clear of their AEW deals.

Fightful reported that those they spoke with believe Lucha Bros. are leaving but want to join WWE as a duo. AEW had offered Lucha Bros. a new deal, supposedly the same as what Penta has told people WWE is willing to provide.

AEW sources who spoke with Fightful claimed that the tag team didn’t want to do business in the appropriate ways, and many exited the company. AEW sources believe Penta pushing back on the reports was a way for Fenix to leave AEW without contractual hurdles.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that “there is concern now because AEW has the right to extend Fenix’s deal for another year due to time off due to injuries.”

Earlier this week, there was a report that Penta was headed to Orlando, FL, which led to fans speculating that he was going to the WWE Performance Center since it’s in the city, even though he is still under contract with AEW.

However, AEW shot down the speculation via Twitter when he wrote, “no more gossip! my present is aew!” This is believed to have been done so it wouldn’t impact Fenix’s AEW exit.
