NXT World Champion Tommaso Ciampa is dealing with an injury. Dave Meltzer reported the news. in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
As of this writing, the extent and severity of Ciampa’s injury is unknown. It should be noted that he’s been working through it with the mindset that he’ll take care of it in April. He wants to finish up his current storyline on WWE television before taking necessary action to fix it.
Ciampa is expected to make his next title defense against former DIY tag team partner Johnny Gargano at the NXT TakeOver: New York event takes place on Friday, April 5, 2019 in Brooklyn, New York at the Barclays Center that will air on the WWE Network. This will be part of WrestleMania 35 weekend.
His injury is also the reason that WWE decided to keep him of WWE Raw this week and he is not expected to work the weekend NXT live events.
Moving forward, Aleister Black, Ricochet, and Gargano will work NXT live events as well as TV tapings despite being on the main roster by working both Raw and SmackDown Live TV events. They are still advertised for the touring NXT shows this weekend in Cleveland, Columbus, Pittsburgh, and Royal Oak.
