Trick Williams: The Gingerbread Man Story Was ‘A Win’

The Gingerbread Man angle split the audience down the middle. Trick Williams has a simple way of settling the argument.

Asked on WWE Now at Fanatics Fest whether his confidence ever wavered during the story, the United States Champion did not blink.

“Not at all, because when you look at that whole Gingerbread Man segment, when you look at that funeral that we had for the Gingerbread Man, if you look at what we did to Sami Zayn,” Williams said.

His argument starts with who he was in there with.

“We had a grown future Hall of Famer, no doubt about it, Sami Zayn, who’s been in the main events of WrestleMania, been on everything he can. My first segment against Sami Zayn, Trick Williams, and had him sweating in his boots, had him knocking down water bottles, doing everything he could just to catch his momentum back,” Williams said.

Then he went to the numbers.

“We came out with a song named Gingerbread Man, and let me tell you, the song Gingerbread Man with Trick Williams and Lil Yachty did millions of views on YouTube. Can we talk about that for a second?” Williams said. “Then we had a whole funeral segment, everything with Sami Zayn.”

The part that seals it for him is what the crowds do now.

“Trick Williams came out a much bigger star after Sami Zayn and the Gingerbread segment. I went to France. I went to Italy. I went to Spain, Barcelona, Portugal. I went to Saudi Arabia, and they still chant Gingerbread Man to this day at Sami Zayn,” Williams said. “So you tell me, is that a win? I think it’s a win. It’s a win, man.”

He also credited the story with feeding into where Zayn ended up, and joked that its reach went beyond wrestling.

“That Gingerbread story was so good that Shrek had to come out with another movie that they’re dropping soon to capitalize on the Gingerbread Man,” Williams said. “Tell me it wasn’t a good story.”

Zayn went on to win the Undisputed WWE Championship earlier this month before dropping it to CM Punk nine days later. Asked whether the length of that reign surprised him, Williams had a shorter answer.

“I mean, I hated it,” Williams said. “Oh well, Trick’s turn. It should have been me.”
