Triple H took questions from reporters after NXT Takeover: Brooklyn 4 and, among other things, he talked about the ending of the NXT Championship match.
He said that Johnny Gargano “might have dislocated his knee” during his match against Tommaso Ciampa and they had to change things on the fly.
“Sometimes something happens in a match that you weren’t expecting. It just works out better, sometimes it’s not everything you expect it to be. Clearly, I wasn’t planning on Gargano injuring himself in the last sequence of that match. Did it play into it? Yea. Technically, that was supposed to go slightly differently than it all did. We kind of had to make a call on the fly and change a few things in the actual moment. It ends up being different but the truth is no one knows the difference because only the people that were putting it together know what they were doing so that’s the beauty of what we do.”
Triple H quoted Dusty Rhodes saying if you can get 70 percent of what you have in your head to come out on TV then you’ve hit a grand slam because things will always be at least slightly different in the final product.
It is not clear if the finish of the match was changed or if there was supposed to be another spot that was going to lead to Ciampa retaining his title.
