Becky Lynch has revealed the full story behind her year away from WWE, including a generous gesture from Triple H that kept her on the payroll throughout.
Speaking with Chris Van Vliet on Insight, Lynch opened up about the circumstances that led to her departure in May 2024 and what the conversation with Triple H looked like when she told him she needed time away.
“I told Hunter, I said, ‘Look, I’m stepping away. I’m not going anywhere else, but I just need some time.’ And he was great about it. He was like, ‘Hey, okay, all right, look, but let’s just extend your contract so you can at least get paid.’ Which was just so nice of him. So I was like, ‘I’m not going anywhere. I promise, pinky promise.’ And he was like, ‘Yeah, but you might as well get paid while you’re doing it.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, all right.’ So that was very nice. And I thought it would be like three months. It ended up being a little bit longer than three months. 10 months, I think it ended up being,” Lynch said.
Lynch explained that the decision to step away stemmed from her babyface run not feeling right, combined with the cumulative exhaustion of wrestling frequently, raising her daughter on the road, and writing her book. She did not intend to go anywhere else and the hiatus was never about seeking opportunities outside WWE.
During her time away, Lynch spent more time at home with her family and pursued acting opportunities, including a role on the short-lived Paramount Plus series Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. She returned at WrestleMania 41 in April 2025.
Lynch challenges AJ Lee for the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship on night one of WrestleMania 42 on Saturday, April 18 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Her husband, Seth Rollins, also competes on the same night, facing Gunther.
