Triple H is staying in his role as WWE Chief Content Officer, and now the deal is official.
PWInsider first reported that Paul Levesque has signed a new deal with WWE/TKO to remain in his position overseeing creative. Sources indicated to Bodyslam that the contract is a multi-year deal. Another source told Bodyslam that TKO is happy with the work Levesque has done in the creative role despite some backlash surrounding TKO’s direct involvement in the Road to WrestleMania for multiple consecutive years.
The news of the formal deal comes after Nick Khan used a staff town hall on Monday to make clear that Triple H would continue in his role. According to sources who viewed the town hall and informed POST Wrestling, Khan told staff that Levesque would remain in his position.
Khan also addressed the online criticism surrounding WWE’s recent creative decisions during the town hall, particularly the perception that WrestleMania 42 night one was less well received than night two. He stated the criticism was coming from a vocal minority and went further, citing messages from around 2015 that were critical of WWE’s product at the time, apparently using them to argue that online criticism has historically been an unreliable measure of the company’s actual standing.
The deal comes in the wake of a difficult WrestleMania 42 weekend for the creative side of the business. Dave Meltzer reported that TKO’s direct involvement in the Pat McAfee and Jelly Roll creative angle, which originated with Ari Emanuel rather than WWE’s own team, was described internally as using ultimate creative authority at the most inopportune time and generated significant internal frustration. The post-WrestleMania period also brought the release of 25 wrestlers.
