Two Former WWE Stars Returning to the Company, Most Likely as Part of NXT

WWE could be bringing back a former tag team after becoming interested in using them again.

After a strong run in NXT and constant stop-and-start pushes on the main roster, AOP (Akam and Rezar)was released in 2020. Before Authors of Pain’s departure, Rezar had been on the sidelines as he tore his triceps, while Akam had been removed from television due to his tag team partner being injured.

The tag team hasn’t wrestled since their WWE departure, although they attempted to launch their WES promotion with shows in Europe last year but never got the project off the ground.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported that months after it was reported earlier this year that there had been talk of the tag team returning, sources told the media outlet that AOP “have actually been under contract with WWE since 2022, though we haven’t confirmed as much.”

They were specifically told, “It was before Vince McMahon came back because that put a halt on all signings besides new recruits.” However, there have been some signings in recent months. AOP made sure Paul Ellering, who was their manager in NXT, was heavily involved in negotiations.

The report added that the internal travel list had them on the schedule in May.

Pwinsider reports there has been a lot of talk over the last week about AOP and Ellering returning to make some appearances soon, mostly for the NXT brand. There was talk at Tuesday’s NXT about them potentially appearing next month.
