Vince McMahon was on Squawk in the Box with Ari Emmanuel this morning to talk about selling WWE to Endeavor Group as a new company will be formed where WWE and UFC will merge together.
One of the big talking points of McMahon’s return as the executive director of the WWE Board this past January was whether he would be involved in creative again, something Triple H took over when McMahon retired last July.
McMahon was reportedly backstage at WrestleMania, where he had his own office and on headset, while Paul “Triple H” Levesque was said to be the point man.
When asked McMahon whether he would be involved as much as he had been in creative, McMahon stated:
“Yes and no. On a higher level, yes. In the weeds, which I always loved to get into the weeds in the past…no, can’t do that.”
Regarding the sale, McMahon thought it was the “right time to do the right thing.”
When asked if the sale would’ve taken place if the hush money scandal didn’t happen last year, which led to him resigning as CEO and Chairman, McMahon said:
“Absolutely,” McMahon stated.”Because it makes sense. Nothing has ever happened like this before. And again, I’m always looking for what’s best for our stockholders, what’s best for the company. This is the best thing that’s happened in a long time….It’s great to combine this news together at the same time.”
As previously noted, McMahon sent out an internal email to its employees regarding the sale ahead of a staff meeting this afternoon.
POST Wrestling’s John Pollock reports that sources told him the email contains the line: “Paul Levesque will remain WWE’s chief content executive.”
McMahon also addressed the hush money scandal in this interview that you can check out here.
