Under the creative leadership of Vince McMahon, he had certain words that wrestlers and announcers are not allowed to say on WWE programming.
There are various words banned, which is why they said “WWE Universe” instead of “fans” or “medical facility” instead of “hospital.”
In 2020, Dave Meltzer compiled a list of the banned words McMahon didn’t like. Some of the terms include the following: blood, choke, belt, strap, diva, head shot, trauma, jobber, kill, card, wrestling, wrestler, violence, kayfabe, mofos, house show, and more.
While watching WrestleMania 35, former WWE writer Dave Schilling was tweeting about it. During it, he shared a list of banned terms that McMahon didn’t want being used on television, including “ass,” DQ,” “girls,” “national television,” and more.
Schilling also shared the original plans for the SmackDown Women’s Title and McMahon’s reaction to fans not liking Baron Corbin vs. Kurt Angle match at WrestleMania 35.
“Becky Two Belts” was an adlib. The word “belt” was not allowed then, so I assumed Becky would get in trouble. Instead, they sold t-shirts. pic.twitter.com/wWLvk8DYHa
