WWE Has Considered Bringing Back Former Tag Team For Evolution

WWE has had internal discussions about bringing back the tag team of Cassie Lee and Jessica McKay, known to WWE fans as The IIconics, for the upcoming Evolution premium live event. The duo, who currently perform in TNA as The IInspiration, are former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions and remain a popular act with the audience.

The report from WrestleVotes suggests that while nothing is confirmed, the company has at the very least considered the idea of having the Australian pair make an appearance at the all-women’s show in Atlanta.

“After speaking to those in the know, we can report the WWE has considered bringing in TNA talent, The Inspiration, formerly The IIconics, Peyton Royce and Billie Kay, now known as Cassie Lee and Jessica McKay, to the Evolution PLE next weekend in Atlanta,” the report stated. “Our source did not confirm if the duo would be showing up or if it was just an idea at this point, but we do know the former WWE Tag Team Champions have at the very least been considered for the event.”

A potential return for The IIconics would add a significant boost to the women’s tag team division, which has been in a state of flux. The timing is interesting, as it was also mentioned that the original plan for the Women’s Tag Team Title match at Evolution may have been impacted by an injury to Liv Morgan.

The IIconics had a memorable run in WWE, highlighted by their victory at WrestleMania 35, where they captured the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships. Their entertaining promos and unique chemistry made them a fan-favorite act before their release in 2021.

Cassie Lee and Jessica McKay are currently featured performers in TNA Wrestling, where they have also held the Knockouts World Tag Team Championship. Their contracts with TNA would be a factor in any potential appearance for WWE, but the “forbidden door” has been opened between the two companies in the past.
