WWE had bigger plans for The Bludgeon Brothers before Erick Rowan’s injury

The Bludgeon Brothers were not originally supposed to drop the Smackdown Tag Team Titles this week. Most of you have probably figured out that the title change occurred because of the bicep injury to Erick Rowan. The injury occurred when Rowan did a dive through the ropes at SummerSlam. He continued the match but you could see him grab his arm after the spot and the finish of the match went as planned.

“They were not supposed to switch the tag belts this week,” Mike Johnson said this week on PWInsider audio.

Unfortunately for Harper and Rowan, whatever plans WWE had for them are on hold.  Johnson said, “I was told that there was a larger role planned for The Bludgeon Brothers coming out of the pay-per-view. I don’t know what it was but the injury is why they did the tag title switch.”

Rowan is set to undergo surgery this week in Birmingham, Alabama. The injury is similar to what sidelined Drew McIntyre last year. We’ll see what happens next with Luke Harper because Rowan’s injury is going to keep him out of action for several months.
