Vince McMahon has his sights set on his next big crossover star.
As we noted on Tuesday, the company has big plans for Lacey Evans. On Wednesday’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer provided some insight on how the company feels about her. “You have no idea how big they want Lacey Evans to be,” Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio.
As noted yesterday, one idea that has been pitched is for Lacey Evans to challenge Asuka for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at WrestleMania. That match will probably not happen but there are big plans for Evans this year.
“When Ronda leaves, whenever that will be,” Meltzer added. “By the way, even now there is no firm date on Ronda leaving.” Rousey could leave at WrestleMania or she could stay for another few months and the word is that it’s all up to her. Meltzer continued, “When Ronda leaves, the big three is Charlotte, Becky Lynch and Lacey Evans.”
There are no guarantees that Evans will make it as a big star but management sees a lot of potential in her. The feeling is that she is someone who will be good for the company because she is a former Marine, a great athlete and she’s seen as someone who can be promoted as a crossover star.
For whatever it’s worth, Evans appeared on SmackDown Live during Asuka’s match with Mandy Rose so that could be a sign that they are still considering Asuka vs. Evans for WrestleMania.
