WWE held a talent meeting before Monday Night Raw to address the coronavirus (COVID-19).
PWInsider noted that the meeting was to go over the latest information on the outbreak and to inform talents on what they can do to protect themselves while they are on the road.
Two more cases were confirmed in Florida on Monday including one in Hillsboro County (Tampa), the site of this year’s WrestleMania 36. For anyone wondering, there has been no talk of rescheduling or moving the show.
Last week, during an interview with TampaBay.com, Stephanie McMahon was asked about the coronavirus and how WWE will address the issue with wrestlers.
McMahon said, “The health and safety of not only our fan base, but also our superstars, really does come first. We don’t want to put anyone in a bad situation ever, regardless of the circumstance. Those are not risks worth taking.”
She continued, “Given the number of live events that (WWE) does, it’s constantly monitoring global events. There are active and ongoing discussions at play internally, like there are in any sector of American business, and certainly families as a whole. So I think those will continue.”
Several events in Japan, including New Japan Pro Wrestling shows scheduled for this month, have been canceled. No wrestling shows in the United States have been canceled as of now. Of course, things can change as the number of coronavirus cases increase. WrestleMania tends to draw a large number of fans from around the country who are also there to attend independent shows so the coronavirus news has to be a top concern for everyone involved.
