AEW Dynamite beat WWE NXT nearly every week in the ratings during the Wednesday Night Wars until WWE moved NXT to Tuesday night.
As previously reported, some people want to see NXT beat Dynamite in the ratings, with the focus being on a specific age group, which is the 8-34 demographic rating. The critical demo that advertisers look for is the 18-49.
This comes at a time when WWE is looking to boost NXT’s TV ratings in hopes of getting a bigger payday for the media rights of the developmental brand. The company does this by having main roster stars work on NXT TV.
This strategy, accredited to WWE CEO Nick Khan, has paid off recently by sending World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins and The Judgment Day to NXT. Now, The Endeavor Group has reportedly bought into the idea.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that “Right now, the goal for NXT that we keep hearing is to close the gap with Dynamite in the 18-34 age group, where they’ve been close the last few weeks.”
Meltzer added, “The idea is that’s the age group they need to be strong for touring and to get new stars strong enough that they reach that audience and can tour with them on top.”
As previously noted, WWE aims to tour outside Florida in bigger venues for weekly television.
The report noted that internally it was said NXT Great American Bash in Cedar Park, TX outdrew several of the recent Dynamite events.
