UPDATE: Roman Reigns has tested positive for COVID-19 and he is off tonight’s show.
ORIGINAL: Earlier today, WrestlingNews.co reported that it looks like the Intercontinental Title match between champion Shinsuke Nakamura and Sami Zayn will not be happening tonight at WWE Day 1. It looks like there could be more changes to the card.
Earlier this week, WrestleVotes noted that WWE was hopeful about keeping the card in place without changes but things are fluid. The reason for this is because of the recent positive COVID-19 cases. Some wrestlers were off shows last week. In some cases, it was due to positive cases and in other instances, it was because they wanted to keep people at home to preserve some of the key matches for tonight. The Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar match is very important because it sets up their match for WrestleMania.
WrestleVotes sent out this message on Twitter last Monday: “Regarding the availability of talent for this weekend’s Day 1 PPV, source told me this morning that if the show was tonight, multiple matches would have to be changed. Good thing the event isn’t until Saturday & WWE is hopeful they can keep the card as is. All fluid at this time.”
Today, WrestleVotes tweeted the following: “‘Hopeful’ doesn’t always turn out the way you want.”
That seems to indicate that there are changes happening for tonight’s show. Other than Nakamura vs. Zayn being pulled, it’s unclear what else will be pulled or changed on the show. The only active wrestler who has confirmed his positive COVID-19 test is Seth Rollins. He was off last week’s house shows. Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch was also off the shows last week.
