WWE held the first TV taping for the NXT brand of the new year on Thursday night in Winter Park, FL at Full Sail University. This also served as the final taping before the yellow brand’s first special of the year, NXT TakeOver: Phoenix that takes place later this month.
Here are the spoilers, courtesy of Jacob Cohen:
– Johnny Gargano cut a promo in the ring about how 2018 was a roller coaster for him, but 2019 will be different. Success is about winning and championships, not about how hard you try. In 2019 Gargano will be better, he will win, and he will be a champion. Gargano says the moment in the Cage was a one-time thing and will never happen again, Ciampa is a piece of garbage with a title he wants. Gargano also wants to face Ricochet for the North American Title. This led to Ricochet coming out and says if Gargano wants an opportunity for the title all he has to do is ask. Ricochet asks will he take it from his face to face like a man or attack him from the back in a parking lot. Tommaso Ciampa comes out and starts talking but Gargano tells him to stop talking and get out of here, it’s between Gargano & Ricochet. Aleister Black comes on the screen, says in Phoenix he will make Ciampa fade to black. The lights go out, come back on and Black is out attacking Ciampa.
– Bianca Belair defeats Nikki Cross
– Fabian Aichner & Marcel Barthel vs Hector Kunsman & Stanley Watts
– Adam Cole defeats EC3. Undisputed Era attack EC3 post-match. War Raiders make the save and clean house.
– Street Profits defeat The Metro Brothers. During Street Profits post-match celebration they are attacked by The Forgotten Sons
– Bianca Belair comes out to the ring to cut a promo about how she sent Nikki Cross packing and 2019 is her year and she has Shayna Baszler in her vision. The Horsewomen Out, Shayna says she just doesn’t see it with Bianca, says she may be the fastest and strongest but is definitely not the smartest. Shayna says that she will change Bianca’s vocabulary from “Undefeated” to “Overrated.” Bianca slaps Shayna then leaves quickly.
– Dominik Dijakovic defeats Adrian Jaoude
– Johnny Gargano defeats Humberto Carrillo
– Kassius Ohno defeats Keith Lee after a low blow. Matt Riddle runs down to make the save and Ohno retreats.
– The Velveteen Dream cuts a promo in the ring about how he has a sparkle in his eye. Dream waits for no man, he wants the North American Championship. Outcome Adam Cole & Bobby Fish. Cole says 2019 is the year of TUE, they will capture all of the NXT Gold. Soon Bobby Fish & Adam Cole will have gold. They attempted to attack Dream but he fought them off.
– Lacey Evans defeats Xia Li
– Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch defeat Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner
– Io Shirai & Kairi Sane defeat Amber Nova & Tanea Brooks
– Velveteen Dream defeats Bobby Fish
– Ricochet cuts a promo in the ring about how Johnny Gargano said he would be better in 2019, it then blindsided him with a superkick, in 2018 Gargano showed everyone his true. This led to Gargano coming out and he says Ricochet can’t use his emotions against him and says he won’t attack him. H comes in and tries to attack Ricochet but Ricochet catches him. Tommaso Ciampa comes in and blindsides Ricochet. Aleister Black is next out and attacking Ciampa. Gargano saves Ciampa. It looks like Gargano & Ciampa will make peace then Candice LeRae comes out to convince Gargano it is a bad idea.
