As noted on Tuesday night, Naomi had to vacate the Smackdown Women’s Championship due to a knee injury. Although it may look like a storyline, the reality is that she is really injured and the belief last week was that the injury was not too serious and they thought that she’d be able to wrestle again this week.
It turns out that the injury is more serious than they expected so that’s why they made the decision to strip her of the title. There’s no word on if she will make it back in time for WrestleMania.
If she has to get surgery then I would suspect that she would be out until after Mania which would be a tough break for her because Orlando is her hometown and they were building her storyline around the fact that she would be defending the title there. It would also have been her first time being given a spotlight at WrestleMania.
It looks like they are continuing the Alexa Bliss vs. Becky Lynch feud so that might be the direction they are going in for WrestleMania. Tamina Snuka returned as a babyface over the weekend so I wouldn’t be surprised if they fit her into the Smackdown Women’s title picture.
