Kit Wilson has revealed that Kofi Kingston is the inspiration behind his signature hip swivel, and that KofiMania is his favorite WrestleMania match of all time.
Speaking with The Masked Man Show on Ringer Wrestling during WrestleMania 42 media row, Wilson was asked for his favorite WrestleMania match and immediately pointed to Kofi Kingston’s WWE Championship win over Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 35.
“I’ll say KofiMania. I watched that with one of my best friends. He was a referee in NXT UK, Tom Scarborough. We watched at his house before we joined the company. And I’m a massive Kofi guy. I’m a massive New Day guy. It was incredible. It was everything it needed to be, everything it was built to be. It was just a perfect Mania moment. I think that’s one of the modern day top Mania moments.”
When the hosts noted that Wilson’s love for Kofi suddenly made his current character make complete sense, Wilson confirmed the connection with a smile.
“Why do you think I’m shaking my hips like a certain big man?”
Wilson was also asked about his ring gear, which has been noticeably different from what most wrestlers wear, with higher-waisted pants and unusual cuts on sleeveless tops. He said the visual presentation has always been a deliberate effort to stand out.
“We’re always trying to look at the current roster, or the roster we’re on, and we’re trying to be different. But we’re also trying to make it true to us. Pretty Deadly, I feel like Pretty Deadly was very true to who we were. But more importantly, it was a representation of our friendship and our relationship.”
Wilson also named Jeff Hardy’s Whisper in the Wind as his favorite wrestling move of all time.
“He was just running that way and just pop, pop, pop. And it was just so, it had an unpredictability about it as well.”
Wilson said he would like to see WrestleMania held in London someday but added that his dream location would be his hometown of Newcastle upon Tyne.
“The real answer is London. London, England, obviously, I want that. But another city within England, I don’t think it’ll happen, but Newcastle. I was born in Newcastle upon Tyne.”
