WWE star has agreed to terms on a new contract

It appears that WWE has locked down Cesaro to a new contract after it was reported last week that his current deal was slated to expire soon.

Cesaro’s deal was supposed to expire in April after WrestleMania 37, but the exact date wasn’t known. Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Cesaro has “either signed or verbally agreed to a new deal a few weeks ago.”

It was noted that Daniel Bryan came up with an idea involving the gauntlet match a few weeks ago to determine Roman Reigns’ Royal Rumble opponent. He came up with a babyface star running through the field only to be screwed in the end. Originally, Cesaro was supposed to be in the spot that Shinsuke Nakamura eventually took. Since Cesaro hadn’t signed yet, it was switched to Nakamura.

It was noted that the plan wasn’t to follow up on pushing the winner as WWE always had Adam Peace in mind to win the match and later replaced by Kevin Owens.

Thus, Cesaro is still in the same spot that he is now except for being a babyface instead of a heel. Meltzer added, “he’s been told his role is to make new stars.”
