WWE SummerSlam: AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe for the WWE Championship

The WWE Championship match between AJ Styles and Samoa Joe was one of the highlights on this year’s SummerSlam pay-per-view. Before the match got started, Joe pointed out Styles’ wife and daughter in the crowd and promised that daddy would be coming home tonight. There was a loud “TNA” chant during the first few seconds of the match.

Styles and Joe always had great matches when they were in Impact Wrestling and their match at SummerSlam was more of the same. A few minutes into the match, there was a sick looking leg lariat off the second rope from Joe that resulted in a near fall. A couple of minutes later, Styles took over on offense and hit a Styles Clash but Joe was able to kick out of it.

They had a brief punch and slap exchange and Styles hit Joe with the Pele kick but Joe hit the Uranage Slam out of the corner. Styles went for a Calf Crusher but Joe countered by ramming Styles’ head into the mat and then locking in the Coquina Clutch. Styles barely escaped by getting his foot on the bottom rope. Joe was trying to set up a Muscle Buster off the top but Styles punched back. Joe hit him with a kick to the side of the head, knocking Styles to the outside of the ring. Joe followed up by ramming Styles into the steel steps and then grabbed the mic. He said that it looks like daddy won’t be going home “but I’ll be your new daddy.” Styles rushed at Joe on top of the announcers table. Styles went bezerk and attacked the crew people and used a chair on Joe.

Styles was bleeding from his head as he walked to the back with his wife and daughter. Joe wins but Styles retains because of the DQ. This feud will continue.
