The LWO has split up thanks to the heel turn of Santos Escobar due to his attack on Rey Mysterio, designed to write the Hall of Famer off WWE television while he deals with recovery from an injury that needed to be surgically repaired.
The lead-up
Mysterio had been aligned with Santos Escobar and other members of the LWO, including Carlito, as of late. However, Mysterio had a disagreement with Escobar as he felt Mysterio was siding with Carlito, so he attacked him on an episode of SmackDown.
Mysterio is expected to be sidelined for several weeks due to the surgery. At Saturday’s Survivor Series, Carlito will look to get revenge on Escobar in a singles match.
The idea
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that the split originally called for Escobar to stay with Joaquin Wilde and Cruz Del Toro instead of Escobar attacking the tag team.
Meltzer wrote, “Regarding the LWO split, the original idea was for Wilde & Del Toro to stay with Escobar and feud with Rey & Carlito & a third person.”
Meltzer speculated, based on what WWE has done with him on television, that it would make sense for Dragon Lee to be the person as the company hopes Lee can be the next Mysterio with the plan down the line for Mysterio to endorse him.
Meltzer continued, “The Garzas are the ones who are scheduled at this point to replace Wilde & Del Toro on the Escobar side. There’s speculation of Lopez, who was with Escobar in NXT, being on that side to feud with Vega, but that is not at all confirmed.”
